【Prototype】Fortuna Pearl 21mm Width: Colorful Tabletop Organizer with 11 Colors

  • This piece is a prototype of a tabletop organizer, appealing for its 11-color variation, luxuriously crafted using "Fortuna Pearl (21mm width)," a material characterized by its silky smooth texture and elegant, pearl-like luster.
    The firm texture created by the 21mm width material, along with the multi-color combination and graceful luster, adds a vibrant and bright accent to your desk or dresser.

【Body Design】

  • Material: Fortuna Pearl 21mm width
  • Size: Approximately 12.2 cm wide x 9 cm deep x 7.5 cm high. This is a compact size ideal for organizing everyday small items, such as stationery or cosmetics.

Making Story

This is the colorful 11-color version of the four tabletop case prototypes with handles, made with similar and adjacent colors. I took on this shape inspired by the work of a craft enthusiast in Taiwan.

After making two (actually three) solid color pieces, I started exploring what would happen with two colors, and what would happen if the warp and weft were different colors. In the end I made five prototypes in parallel, pursuing the possibilities of color. My main goal was to find out how quickly I could produce the same shape by making them simultaneously.

For all of them I wove the body first and attached the handles afterwards. My main regret is that the handles do not have any inner core, so they came out a little uneven. I had wanted a rounder shape.

The finished pieces revealed a clear lesson: easy to make but somehow lacking, in need of more refinement. Even so, watching ideas in my head take physical form is genuinely enjoyable. Imagining what the material can become and then making it real involves plenty of failures, but the joy at the moment of completion is enormous.

Of the tabletop case prototypes with handles, only one piece of the 11-color version was made.
