【Prototype】Fortuna Pearl 21mm Width: Original Bag with Luster and Geometric Patterns

Design and Unique Innovations

Making Story
Since Pearl Prototype One I have made prototypes One through Four, but each one carried small flaws and unresolved issues that kept me from being fully satisfied. For this Prototype Nana (Seven) series, I returned to the weaving diagram and rebuilt everything from the ground up to address those problems at their root. The result is this prototype, completed at last.
The method I tried with Pearl Prototype Four, deciding the material length in advance, starting from the inner base, folding outward at the vertical top, and finishing at the outer base, was efficient. What it could not do was produce a beautifully clean checkered or diamond pattern on both the inner and outer base. Splicing material in along the way, as in Prototypes One and Two, would solve that, but it would mean no real technical progress, and the result could not be considered a sellable product. I prioritized completion quality and chose not to use that method.
For the handle, I adopted the 12-strand round weave I had established with Pearl Prototypes Five and Six. By using cold-resistant tubing rated to -10°C as the inner core, the bag can be used year-round, even in winter. This handle is thicker than those on the 6-mass and 9-mass versions and, at 30cm, the shortest in the Prototype Nana series.
Everything other than the brass in the rivets is 100% polypropylene and PVC, so soiling can be addressed directly with water or wiped down with alcohol when needed. Durability is not a concern outside of unusually rough handling. Total weight is about 696g. Whether that feels light or heavy at this size will be judged differently by different users, but considering the casual luxury it offers and the unusually sturdy construction, the weight feels reasonable.
The Prototype Nana series, in 6, 9, and 12-mass versions, is not for sale. As part of the promotion, the pieces are being used by me and my family in everyday life so that durability and any issues can be observed first-hand. I will report on the experience through the website and blog, and use what we learn for future product development.
