【Prototype】Fortuna Pearl 21mm Width: Single-Color Scandinavian-Style Accessory Case

  • This piece is a prototype of a single-color accessory case, inspired by Scandinavian design, luxuriously crafted using "Fortuna Pearl (21mm width)," a material characterized by its silky smooth texture and elegant, pearl-like luster.
    The firm texture and elegant luster created by the 21mm width material in the warm color of Chairo (Brown) bring a sense of calm and a refined atmosphere to any room.

Making Story

This prototype was made in homage to Nordic birch craft, modeled after the look and feel of that tradition. It was made purely as a study without a specific use in mind, but it is roughly the size that holds about half of a vertically placed iPad (3rd generation).

The biggest problem I noticed after finishing was a slight twist that becomes visible when viewed from directly above. It happened because I pulled the weave in one direction too strongly. Handmade pieces really do show the maker's habits, but unfortunately I could not correct the twist after the fact.

I chose 21mm-wide Fortuna Pearl for this prototype for a reason. The 21mm width feels much larger than I expected, and that convinced me I could take on bigger work than I had attempted before. At the same time, I learned that the wider the strap, the harder the final finishing becomes. Simply weaving the ends a little longer is not the solution.

Fixing the twist and mastering the finishing of wider straps are now my two main challenges. With this material and this technique, I am confident that with the right approach, beautiful work is possible.

Only one piece of this Nordic-style solid color case was made.
