Making Story

Inspired by the work of a craft enthusiast in Taiwan, I took on the challenge of a two-color square stripe pattern.

The color combinations, the order of weaving, and above all the finishing of the top edge gave me real trouble. Handling the diagonal section at the top, where both the outer and inner faces of the bag come into play, was particularly difficult, and the gaps in the weave became noticeable. Honestly, I nearly gave up two or three times. I managed to finish it, but I came away convinced I still need more skill.

For verification I attempted the same two colors again, and for some reason the color placement came out reversed from the first attempt. That too is part of the depth and difficulty of weaving. Once my skills have grown a little more, I would like to take this pattern on again.

For the handle I used INAZUMA's synthetic leather YAK-590 (about 46cm long, about 1cm thick, in purple). The ready-made purple rivets, however, felt out of balance with the bag overall, so I removed every one of them and replaced them with antique-style hardware as an upgrade. Budget constraints led me to use ready-made handles, but I was struck by how completely the entire feel of the bag transforms when you simply swap the color of the rivets.

This is a single-piece prototype, meaningful both as a technical challenge and as a discovery of what is possible by customizing off-the-shelf parts.
