【Prototype】Fortuna Pearl 21mm Width: A Geometric Pattern Bag with Enhanced Luster
- This piece is a prototype luxuriously crafted using "Fortuna Pearl (21mm width)," a material characterized by its silky smooth texture and elegant, pearl-like luster.
The main body is expressed through a unique method combining Harlequin Check and Diagonal Check (Ichimatsu Check) patterns, maximizing the beautiful texture of the material. The glossy material highlights the beauty of the geometric patterns.

Making Story
Around February 2019, I saw a harlequin check (diagonal check, checkered pattern) bag from an overseas fashion brand on Twitter and was so taken with it that I decided to try the pattern myself. The result was Pearl Prototype One, made with 21mm-wide Fortuna Pearl.
Covering an entire bag in a checkered pattern was beyond my still-basic skills at the time, but by working out the base creatively, I was able to bring the overall shape together. The outside is covered in the checkered pattern except around the lower section, while the inside is finished in the checkered pattern with material spliced in along the way, since this was my first time.
For the handle, I tried various approaches and settled on real leather secured with double-cap rivets. The material is thick, and I was worried that Φ12 rivets alone would not provide enough strength, so I crushed the rivet on the inner side as well, which solved the strength concern. With more skill the leather handle and rivet work should turn out even better in the future.
The total weight is about 340g. Whether that counts as light or heavy at this size is hard to judge, but for use as a fashion piece it feels about right. Durability is honestly an unknown, though it should be fine outside of truly rough handling. Apart from the leather handle and the double-cap rivets, the bag is 100% polypropylene, so it can be washed with water or wiped clean with a damp cloth.
I never imagined that conceiving this prototype and actually bringing it to life would end up changing the way I live. The experience set the course for my passion for making things from that point on. A single piece, made as a record of a milestone challenge.
