Simple Challenge: Nordic-Style Container Solid Color Prototype
- This prototype was created to mimic the image and style of Nordic birch crafts. As it is a prototype, I did not consider a specific purpose, but the size is large enough for a third-generation iPad to fit about halfway vertically.
The Challenge of "Twist" and the Difficulty of Handmade Goods
- The biggest problem I noticed after production was that the force applied during weaving was too consistently in one direction, causing the entire piece to appear twisted when viewed directly from above. I strongly felt that handmade items reveal the maker's habits, but unfortunately, I was unable to correct this twist.
Challenging 21mm Width and the Final Finish Hurdle
- There is a reason I used 21mm width Fortuna Pearl for this prototype. The 21mm width felt surprisingly large, leading me to believe I could confidently challenge myself with larger items different from my previous works.
- However, I also learned that as the width increases, the final closure/tuck-in becomes significantly more difficult. Simply weaving the end longer does not seem to be the solution.
Future Outlook
- Correcting this "twist" and mastering the "final finish of large widths" are important challenges for the future. Nevertheless, I believe that with this material and technique, an excellent product can certainly be made with enough ingenuity.
- This prototype of the Nordic-Style Container in Solid Color is a one-of-a-kind creation.
